Events & Activities

Fire Explorer Activities 

The Post attends drills with two local fire departments, Lincoln and West Walworth.  At these drills we learn:

  • The placement of tools on the trucks, and their function(s).
  • How to handle hose lines.
  • How to operate fire hydrants.
  • Ladder placement and set-up.
  • Function and operation of Air Packs (SCBA) self controlled breathing appatarus.
  • Fire Ground Safety.

 

 Interesting Summer Activities:

  1. In the past we have had a water ball tournament.  This is a competition between two teams, using hose lines to push a suspended ball past the other team to the end of the rope.
  2. We have also had the opportunity to spend a weekend during the summer at the NYS Academy of Fire Science, located in Montour Falls, NY.  This is an all expense paid trip where one can learn from professional firefighters.

1st through 3rd

Montour Falls Explorer Weekend

 Well we left at around 3:00 pm on Friday the 1st and ended in Montour Falls about 5:00.  We got unpacked and had dinner.  Then we had orientation.  It lasted about 1 hour.  Then everyone wandered and went  to bed hopefully by 11:00.  On Saturday it started our first class at 8am.  Nick went on his way and so did Megan.  The rest of us were all together and started the day on ladders.  Jesse ended his weekend with trip to the hospital due to a back injury.  While he was their with Ed another of our members Catie went down due to asthma.  She was alot better after she got cooled off with a cold shower.  But they are fine now.  Jesse sent our advisor Ed out to get him some motrin and icy hot.  Once he got that he was alot better. While Ed and Catie were out gettin Jesse his medicine, Ed, Catie went on a tour of Watkins Glen International Race Way with advisor Eric.  They like the tour.  We had a pizza party in the cafeteria with the building due to FASNY (fireman association state of New York).  We ended that night with a toga party.  We had Toni,Nick,Eric H.,Jesse,and the President of the post Megan running around in sheets from their beds wraped around them as toga's and also we had Justin and Dustin from Warsaw involved in the toga party.  They were told that if they had any guts that they would run into the cafeteria with the toga's on.  Well they didn't. But they ran through the 5th, 4th, 3rd,and 2nd floors in the togas.  Well then some of them forgot their room keys in their rooms so they had to find someone to let them in.  So they did get in their rooms eventually. 

 

Megan and Catie saw a bat inside flying around on the 3rd floor.  Catie was watching tv in the rotunda and the bat flew right around her and megan just happen to hear her screaming and came out to see what happened.  We woke a girl in room 308 up on accident.
